Purple Pulse Fly Tying Tutorial

The Purple Pulse is a versatile freshwater coho fly designed to trigger aggressive strikes with a combination of movement, profile, and subtle flash. Purple has long been an effective but often overlooked colour for freshwater coho, and this pattern takes full advantage of it. The marabou tail provides constant movement, while the fox wing adds profile without creating unnecessary bulk, making it an excellent choice throughout the freshwater coho season.

The Purple Pulse is designed to be fished on a strip retrieve. Cast slightly across or downstream, allow the fly to sink to the desired depth, and retrieve it with a series of short, steady strips. Mix in occasional longer pulls and pauses to let the marabou and wing breathe naturally in the water. If fish are following without committing, experiment with retrieve speed and pause length until they show a preference.

Whether you're covering long runs, tailouts, or deeper holding water, the Purple Pulse is a simple, effective pattern that's built to be fished with confidence whenever freshwater coho are on the move.
