The Ember Caddis Pupa is our take on an October Caddis imitation designed to get down quickly and stay in the strike zone. Built with a brass bead and lead underbody, this heavily weighted pattern is ideal for probing deeper runs, riffles, and pocket water when trout are feeding on one of the largest aquatic insects of the fall season.

How to Fish the Ember Caddis Pupa

Fish the Ember Caddis Pupa through runs, riffles, pocket water, and deeper seams where trout are likely to be holding. Its weighted design allows it to reach the strike zone quickly, making it an excellent choice for faster currents and deeper water.

Present the fly with a natural, drag free drift while maintaining enough contact to detect subtle takes. As the drift comes to an end, allow the fly to swing and rise naturally through the water column. This upward movement closely imitates the final stage of a caddis pupa's emergence and can often trigger aggressive strikes.

The Ember Caddis Pupa is most effective from late summer through fall when October Caddis are active, but it can also be an excellent searching pattern whenever trout are feeding on larger subsurface insects.
