Depth Charge Deep Water Chironomid Fly Tying Tutorial

A good deep-water chironomid pattern is a must-have in your fly box. What makes this chironomid a “deep-water” fly? The materials and colors it is tied with help it stand out at depth. Purple and blue shades are more visible at depth compared to colors like red, allowing this pattern to stand out among all the pupae ascending from the bottom. This is a fantastic choice for dangling your fly in the 20-plus-foot range. A tungsten bead will definitely help get the fly down into the strike zone and keep it there.
