ASB Backed Herl Mayfly Nymph Fly Tying Video

Chironomids aren't the only insects in our stillwaters that can have that “gassy” shiny appearance. Mayflies can too. This pattern uses a strip of ASB (Anti Static Bag) over the back and for the wing case. The shine that this gives the pattern can help it stand out in a big hatch or, if the insects haven’t reached that “gassy” stage, as they ascend the water column to emerge.
