Root Beer Cruncher Variant Fly Tying Tutorial

“Crunchers” are a style of fly that are commonly fished in the UK. They are a very popular category of flies with endless patterns that fit under the name. We classify them as an attractor style pattern as they don’t necessarily imitate one type of insect specifically, but they do a fantastic job of imitating several different insects. These are tied in sizes 8-16 with 10-14 being the most popular sizes. This style of fly is a great one to try when things just aren’t happening and you need to figure out the bite, that’s where this type of fly shines. Fish it through the water column with a full sinking line like the RIO Fathom Premier Sinking Line, catch your fish and you can take a throat sample and dial things in for there!
