The Idaho Nymph is a classic trout pattern that has been catching fish for decades. Its natural profile and simple design make it an excellent all around nymph and a pattern that still deserves a place in the fly box today.
This version keeps the character of the original Idaho Nymph while adding a subtle modern touch. A pearl overlay is added over the wingcase to give the fly a little extra flash without overpowering its natural appearance.
This video takes you through the complete tying process step by step, along with tips for creating a durable and well proportioned fly.
The Idaho Nymph is an effective pattern for both lakes and rivers. Concentrate on getting the fly to the depth where the trout are feeding, then experiment with retrieve speed, pauses, and movement until you find what the fish respond to.
All of the fly tying materials used in this pattern are available from our shop.
