Olive & Orange Cormorant Fly Tying Tutorial

The Cormorant is one of the most successful stillwater trout flies to come out of the United Kingdom. Originally developed for reservoir fishing, it built a reputation as a dependable searching pattern that could suggest several different food sources without copying any one of them exactly.

The Olive and Orange Cormorant can resemble a chironomid pupa, a small leech, freshwater shrimp, or even a tiny baitfish. The olive body keeps the pattern natural, while the orange hotspot gives trout a clear trigger point.

Although the pattern has British roots, it is well suited to our local lakes and ponds, especially when trout are feeding on chironomids or cruising in search of easy food. It can be fished slowly on a floating line, worked on an intermediate, or counted down on a sinking line when fish are holding deeper.
