Ham and Cheese Blob Fly Tying Tutorial

If things are not hatching, the Ham and Cheese Blob has become one of those flies we always like to hang under an indicator. It is not a complicated pattern, but that bright two tone colour combination mixed with the subtle movement from the marabou tail just seems to give fish the confidence to commit. When trout are cruising and ignoring more natural presentations, a blob like this can really stand out and trigger aggressive eats.

What we like about this pattern is that it fishes with a ton of presence without needing a lot of movement or complicated materials. Under an indicator, the marabou tail breathes just enough to keep the fly looking alive, while the bright contrast of the body gives fish something easy to key in on. It is one of those flies that can completely turn a slow stillwater day around, especially when fish are suspended and feeding somewhere in the middle of the water column.

In this video, we’ll show you exactly how to tie this dirty little stillwater pattern from start to finish, along with a few small details that really help bring the fly to life under the indicator.
