Rio Aqualux Premier Fly Line Review

Rio Aqualux Premier Fly Line Review

As we contemplated the review for the RIO Premier Aqualux Fly Line, it really sunk in just how versatile these lines are for so many of our fisheries.

One of the highlights of these lines is the 30’ clear front section.  This long clear section of the line simply won’t spook or be seen by fish which can be a major advantage to the angler in the game of fishing.

Castability

These lines are an absolute pleasure to cast. The short 30’ head loads rods without having to have too much line in the air which can be quite advantageous when the back casting room is limited.

Slick Cast Technology

The RIO Slick Cast technology that RIO has integrated into this line is off-the-charts good. This technology substantially increases the shootability of the line and also increases its durability. The Premier Aqualux is nice and supple. Those who saw some of the first clear lines on the market many years ago will remember some of the early issues with the lines being too stiff which would lead to tangles when shooting line out. This frustration is a thing of the past with these lines.

Welded Loops

There are welded loops at both ends of the line for quick spooling and quick changes of leaders.  It’s still worth mentioning, even though most modern fly lines utilize a loop system.

Uses

As mentioned at the beginning of the review there are a ton of uses for these lines. The Premier Aqualux has a slow sink rate of 1.5 inches per second, making it ideal in shallow water when lake fishing, Coho river fishing, Coho beach/estuary fishing, Coho fishing in the open ocean, when they’re feeding in shallow water or on the surface, Pink salmon beach/estuary fishing, Pink Salmon River fishing in slow-moving water, Cutthroat fishing off beaches or Cutthroat river fishing and Bass Fishing.  With a list like that, it would be reasonable to say that if you fly fish in our local waters or in places with similar fisheries, you need to own a RIO Premier Aqualux Fly Line.

Thanks to the good folks at Sea-Run for their articles on clear lines for coho & Rio Aqualux line.

I caught my first 3 coho ever on the fly with Aqualux 7wt yesterday.
