Phil’s Fork-Tail Devil Fly Tying Tutorial

Phil Rowley has developed countless patterns that excel in our Stillwater fisheries, and I routinely take inspiration from the patterns he ties. The Fork-Tail Devil is a great bloodworm pattern that is extremely versatile in how it can be fished. You can hang it under an indicator, fish it naked on a floating line, or give it a slow retrieve on a slow sink tip or full sink line like the RIO Premier AquaLux Fly Line. It is also very easy to modify to imitate the different colours we encounter when fish are feeding on chironomid larvae. Tying this with a green rib and even a green tail with a red body are favourites of mine as well. If you are getting bloodworms in your throat samples, it is time to get one of these down right near the mud and see if you can entice a bite with Phil's Fork-Tail Devil.
