Biot Body Mayfly Recipe

This is one of our favourite patterns to imitate Mayflies. It can be tied in a variety of sizes and colours to imitate the wide variety of Mayfly species that we encounter while fishing in BC.

The natural segmentation created when winding the turkey biot for the abdomen makes for a very realistic imitation.  If you are fishing rivers and streams, consider adding some weight to this fly. An unweighted version can be extremely effective when the fish are feeding just under the surface, especially if it is tied with an extra-fat wing case. This will simulate a mayfly that is getting ready to emerge.

For Stillwater applications, we recommend fishing this fly on a slow sinking line or floating line with a long leader. One way you can fish this fly in moving water is under a strike indicator using the high stick method.

This is a worthwhile addition to your fly box. Give one a try and see how it works for you!
